The Two Senior Officials in Ukraine were Suspended, and the US State Department Responded that the Information Passed to the Uzbek Attorney General was Mostly Public Information

[Global Network Reporter Wu Yuanchun] After Ukrainian President Zelensky announced on the evening of the 17th that he would dismiss Ukrainian Attorney General Venediktova and Director of the National Security Agency Bakanov, the Ukrainian Presidential Office said on the 18th that it was not a "dismissal," but "suspended investigation." According to a CNN report, US State Department spokesman Price responded to the Ukrainian move on the 18th by saying that the United States had been informed of relevant reports and that "We have established an intelligence-sharing relationship with our Ukrainian counterparts, and we will continue to advance this work." 

Regarding the personnel changes in Ukraine, Price responded on the 18th that the United States will continue to "closely monitor the development" and "we maintain daily contact with our Ukrainian partners." She said that most of the information the United States passed to the Ukrainian Attorney General on a "routine basis" was "public information". "We have established an intelligence-sharing relationship with our Ukrainian counterparts, and we will continue to advance this work."

In his speech on the evening of the 17th, Zelensky said that the dismissal of the two senior officials was in response to a large number of treason investigations against law enforcement personnel. There are currently 651 such cases, especially 60 in the prosecutor's office and the National Security Agency. Several employees "remain in the occupied territories and against our country."  Zelensky said such a series of crimes against the foundations of national security, as well as the documented links between Ukrainian security forces and Russian special forces, raise "very serious questions" for the heads of their respective agencies. He said further action would be taken.

The Times of Israel commented that this is the largest political reshuffle of the Ukrainian government since Russia launched a special military operation against Ukraine in February. An article in Russia's "Viewpoint" titled "Why Zelensky Began an Urgent Struggle with Traitors" said that because of the increasing number of Ukrainian defeats on the front line and Western claims that Ukraine has an arms trade, Zelens Fundamentally needs to get someone to come out and take responsibility. Chesler, the leader of the Ukrainian Political Immigration Union, said that the two were not through the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament), but were directly dismissed by the president, indicating that the United States was directly involved in the decision-making.
